The Block is an Australian reality television series broadcast on the Nine Network. Each series follows four couples as they compete against each other to renovate apartments and later houses and sell them at auction for the highest profit.

The original series of The Block first ran for two consecutive years and was hosted by Australian gardening guru Jamie Durie. The first season was filmed in Bondi and the second in Manly. They were both filmed for 13 and 26 weeks respectively.

Revived series (2010-present)

The Nine Network revived The Block in 2010 after a six year absence. The third season first aired on 22 September 2010 and took place in Vaucluse, Sydney. The new host was none other than television personality and builder Scott Cam. This season was aired for 9 weeks.

The fourth season first aired on 20 June 2011 and took place in Richmond, Melbourne. Scott Cam returned as host along with Shelly Craft as The Block's Challenge Master. This season saw a massive change in the layout of the series, instead of renovating appartments, the couples now had to renovate four separate houses. This season was the first to have eight coupes battle it out in an elimination week for the four positions on The Block. Begining wth this season The Block was aired every weeknight at 7pm taking the tagline "7 O'Block Weeknights" and every Sunday night. This season was aired for 8 weeks.

The fifth season first aired on 16 April 2012 and took place at 401-407 Drocas Street, South Melbourne. The couples had to renovate four side-by-side terrace homes.

During the finale of the fifth season, a sixth All-Star edition of the series was anounced with contestants from past seasons that had not won in their season. The four returning couples were announced in October 2012. As a ten year celebration of The Block, filming for this series relocated to its original location in Bondi, Sydney. This season first aired on 4 February 2013 and took place at 6-12 Tasman Street, Bondi.

The Nine Network renewed The Block for a seventh season, The Block Sky High, to air in 2013. The location has been confirmed as 142 Park Street, South Melbourne.
